About Synergeia
MapTool
The MapTool which is part of the ANTS system developed by the University of Murcia, is one of the synchronous tools in Synergeia. It is used by groups of students to construct simple conceptual maps, diagrams and drawings. Students can chat while they collaboratively work in the drawing area. Only students who share a Synergeia course or group folder can use the MapTool together. All activities in the tool are stored as a so-called Maptool Session: the chat stream is saved as a text file and the drawing is saved as a jpg file which can be included into other documents. Furthermore, a session is saved in a format that can be re-opened later to continue the work on a drawing.
MapTool is typically used by a project group to draw diagrams to visualise relationships among concepts in their theories and discussions, or among objects in the study domain. A group can display their maps to other groups and ask them to comment in the Synergeia course. Another feature of Maptool is the possibility to analyse activity data: while the users are collaborating, events are saved in a log file and the information therein can be displayed in tutorware tools.
