In contrast to BSCW Synergeia distinguishes between two system roles, students and teachers. Students can build their knowledge within threaded discussions, guided by thinking types. They can build a folder hierarchy and share documents or URLs. With the MapTool it is possible to build synchronously a concept map. A teacher is allowed to register other teachers or students, setup courses and groups or help students, i.e., a teacher can change the password, the details, the preferences or the profile of a student.
